6 wedding trends that will be huge in 2019
But ‘The Meghan Markle Effect’ isn’t just influencing bridal fashion. Non-traditional wedding cakes, smaller, more classic bouquets and even getaway cars inspired by the Duchess of Sussex are all placed in high demand this year.
With the 2019 wedding season underway, accomplished wedding journalist and industry expert Claire Bloomfield has forecast the six biggest 2019 wedding trends for you to take inspiration from…
1. ECO-CONSCIOUS WEDDINGS
With the recent shift in sustainable sentiment that has in turn increased awareness and our sense of social responsibility, the demand for a guilt-free eco friendly wedding is also growing. A greener mind-set can simplify your wedding plans and can potentially be more cost effective, too. Why not consider having your wedding invitations and place cards printed on recycled paper? Hollyhock Lane creates beautiful hand painted stationary on high quality eco friendly FSC certified paper and uses vegetable-based inks.
2. PERSONALISED TABLE DÉCOR
Choosing linens and wedding table décor is no easy task. Whilst you’re bound to notice an abundance of velvet and pops of colour this year, it’s the subtle personalised accessories that have got everybody talking. Monogrammed napkins - that are sure to reappear at a forthcoming dinner party – will add refined elegance to evening proceedings. Keep the design of your wedding table simple for maximum impact. Boutique design studio Jennifer’s Paper achieve this 2019 table trend by creating bespoke tags to be attached to cutlery or favors with names, dates or a romantic message. If your budget allows, team up with an expert planner like Rebecca K Events who’s styling skills are sought after on both sides of the Atlantic.
3. SIMPLE CLASSIC STYLES
We have Meghan Markle to thank for the flurry of crisp gowns with clean simple silhouettes and bateau necklines that have hit the bridal catwalks this year. A host of British designers are amongst those who have emulated the Duchess of Sussex’s iconic Givenchy gown in their most recent collections. Savannah Miller’s modern and minimalist ‘Gwendolyn’ gown is among my favorites. Remember, sleeves can be the perfect solution for those early spring or late summer weddings.
4. VEIL ROMANCE
Although last year’s lust for show stopping capes continues, elegant veils featuring intricate lace edging, delicate embellishments or beading and dramatic length are also likely to be a key trend in 2019. To wow your guests opt for a tulle veil with subtle touches of floral embroidery that floats elegantly behind you. It’s also a good idea familiarise yourself with veil vocabulary before traipsing around to bridal boutiques.
5. NON-TRADITIONAL WEDDING PARTIES
Rather than keeping the bridesmaids and groomsmen strictly separated into ladies and gentlemen, we'll see a mix of genders standing on both sides of the aisle this year. More and more couples are bucking tradition and embracing unique bridal parties by choosing grooms-girls and brides-men to accompany them on their wedding day. Who says you can't have a "mate" of honour?
6. DRAMATIC FLORAL ARCHES
Opulent floral wedding arches are cementing their place as the pièce de résistance of venue décor. An expertly crafted floral arch will pack a real punch in terms of impact. It will instantly upgrade your venue and provide a stunning backdrop for your photographs. If you find yourself lusting over the white garden roses and lush green foliage that welcomed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at St George’s Chapel, take a look at Miriam Faith for floral inspiration for your own big day.
Highly regarded by the UK’s leading bridal magazines, Miriam crafts memorable wedding bouquets, arches and table centrepieces with seasonal blooms and meticulous attention to detail. The London-based florist even hosts intimate workshops where you can learn to create your own floral arrangements.
